Beskrivelse
Snogeholm Nature Reserve is a small part of the Snogeholm hiking area managed by the Skånska landskap Foundation. Hiking trails take you past sparkling water and through lush beech forest and grazed oak pastures. Kjejsardammen is one of several places that offer fishing and barbecue facilities (fishing license required). Up at Fiskarehus there is a large parking lot and toilet. Here you can start your hike and maybe finish with a coffee in café Villa Vandra? This popular recreation area is located at Snogeholmssjön between Sjöbo and Ystad.
Estate landscape with large oaks
The land was previously part of the Snogeholm Castle estate, but since 1970 it has been owned by the OD Krook Foundation in Malmöhus County. The character of the estate landscape is preserved through the large old oaks and cultural remains. Northwest of Kejsardammen are the remains of an old village site. South of the dam is a memorial stone with the text "Here Kaiser Wilhelm II shot his first roebuck on Swedish soil, 20.9.1899". North of the Emperor's Pond there is also an 80 meter long hollow way. As a 3 meter wide and 1 meter deep furrow, this ancient road runs through the forest. Rainwater and wear and tear from carts, hooves and feet have chiseled out this sunken road. There is another memorial to the 1967 storm that hit southern Skåne hard. It sits on a tree along the entrance to the parking lot at Fiskarehus.
Oaks with oaks and greater mouse-ear
Snogeholm's nature is varied. Ponds and gnarled old oaks welcome in the area's pastures and deciduous forests. The environments are appreciated by bats such as the greater mouse-ear and barbastelle. The reserve's 150 or so large oak trees provide shelter and roosts for the area's 12 bat species. But many wood beetles and birds also live in the wood flour and cavities. The most exclusive of these is perhaps the protected oak. Other rare beetles include the beech blossom beetle and the six-spotted flower beetle. Starlings and sparrowhawks are birds that like to nest in the hollows of trees. Other examples of birds in the reserve are greenfinch and yellowhammer.
Water with bell frog and kingfisher
There are eight ponds in the reserve. They are home to amphibians such as the bell frog, leaf frog and great crested newt. The ponds are also popular with birds such as spoonbills, gadwalls, grebes, grebes, coots, sea eagles and cranes. Along the Snogeholmsån river that runs through the area, you may see the kingfisher.
Outdoor life and accessibility
The two nature reserves Snogeholm and Navröd are part of the large Snogeholm hiking area managed by the Skånska landskap Foundation. It is a popular destination for nature experiences and recreation. Just north of the reserve, near Fiskarehus, there is a large parking lot for the entire hiking area. It is a good starting point for hiking. There are toilets, rest areas and a café nearby. There are also opportunities to fish and to rent a boat or canoe. There is a small parking lot for about 5 cars at the fishing pond Kejsardammen. Just south of the reserve, at the landscape laboratory, there is another parking lot. Regional bus 341 stops about 1.5 km north of the hiking area.
The 17 km long Snogeholm Trail passes through the reserve and goes around the entire hiking area. It passes both Kejsardammen and Landskapslabbet as well as Snogeholmssjön and Navröds nature reserve. The terrain is varied and runs mostly on nature trails but also through pastures. There are several rest areas in the area, including at Snogeholmssjön and Kejsardammen. There is a fireplace at the latter. A small campsite borders the nature reserve to the northwest. A fishing license is required for fishing in Kjejsardammen and Snogeholmssjön. The Skånska Landscape Foundation website has information about sales. Remember that private land is available in the area - please respect the privacy zone.
