Beskrivelse
Skoghusets enefälad is located just over a mile north of Ystad and, with its undulating, mosaic-like landscape, offers fine nature experiences. There are extensive pastures and grazed forest areas with some really old beech trees. These beech trees grew up in an open landscape with many grazing cows and sheep in the 18th and 19th centuries. The word "utmark" refers to the area's long history as grazing land.
The important work of grazing animals
The more or less open pastures are in the north-western part of the reserve. Here you can still find plants that are typical of old field pastures, such as heather, sedge, yellowhammer and bluebell. A decade or so ago there was also cat's foot, ground thistle and maidenhair in the meadow, but they have probably disappeared since the area began to grow again.
In the east, the beech forest rises instead with its small swamp forest areas in wetter parts. The rest of the land is characterized by fields and former farmland that is now grazed. In the north there are also two smaller forest areas of particular value, so-called key biotopes. These are a swamp forest and a group of old beech trees. The rare beech beetle is found in the area thanks to the presence of older, rough beech trees and stumps.
Colorful frogs and fungi
The area around Baldringe, which includes Skoghuset's meadow, is known for its tree frogs and bell frogs. They thrive in natural pastures that have trees and shrubs as well as water bodies. This is also appreciated by the great crested newt, which also needs moist deciduous forest areas nearby as it likes to live under decaying tree trunks and stumps.
It is not only meadow flowers that thrive in unfertilized but well-grazed old pastures. Many fungi do too. In Skoghuset's meadow field you can find colorful species such as purple waxcap, scarlet waxcap, sepia waxcap, purple finger mushroom and reddish-brown red truffle.
Among the larger animals in Skoghuset's meadow field, the red deer stands out. The Scanian population, one of two in Sweden, is special in that it is one of the few red deer populations in Europe and the world that is not mixed.
Outdoor life
At Skoghusets enefälad there is a parking lot southeast of the reserve boundary. The reserve is a bit away from the main roads, so many come by car. From the parking lot you can continue west on foot. There are no marked paths, but a dirt road leads you further west along the southern reserve boundary. You can then continue your walk towards the Syntelejet pasture in the north-western part of the reserve on a wide field clearing. People without mobility problems can get around relatively easily in the small hilly areas that largely lack fence passages. For others it can be more difficult. Remember to take your rubbish home.
In English
Welcome to Skoghusets enefälad Nature Reserve
In Skoghusets Enefälad Nature Reserve you are met by a rolling landscape created by ice ages, people and nature. In the spring, the bushes in the pastures produce delicate white flowers, whilst thecommon tree frog and the fire-bellied toad do their best to outcompete one another's mating calls. On warm summer days, the beech woodland provides cooling shade and in the late summer, colorful mushrooms light up the pastures.
Many species can find a home in this traditional, varied agricultural landscape, with a mosaic of different environments. The common tree frog and the fire-bellied toad thrive particularly well here. They have everything they need - small, sunny ponds without fish, where their young can grow, and the surrounding pastures where there is plenty of food and shelter.
The pasture's flowering bushes and herbs attract all kinds of insects looking for nectar and pollen. The old, large, open grown wood pasture trees contain a whole host of insects, lichens and fungi.
