Mossbystrand, Naturreservat

Mossbystrand, or Abbekåsstranden as it is also known, is a small coastal reserve a few kilometers east of Abbekås. The reserve is perhaps best known for its bathing-friendly sandy beach, but the grasslands above the beach have a fine dry meadow flora with species such as wood anemone and wood thyme.

Planned nature conservation burning in March-April

Sometimes the meadow must burn, so that species do not disappear! Therefore, the County Administrative Board carries out planned conservation burning in several protected areas during March-April, including here.

Flowering sandy soil

On the really dry sandy soils in the reserve grows, among other things, trift with its purple flowers. This species is typical of dry sandy environments and occurs here in abundance. Other species found in the meadow include bluebell, yellow poppy, wood anemone and thyme. Closest to the sandy beach are the sand-binding dune grasses sand reed and beach rye, groups of the small succulent saltwort and the fairly uncommon beach pine.

In addition to the beach being bathing-friendly, there are also opportunities for lovely walks. Don't miss out on looking for the protected wood anemone, which blooms in the spring. Adjacent to the reserve there is a barbecue area, toilet, outdoor shower and kiosk. Parking is available nearby and the nearest bus stop is Mossbystrand. Remember to take your rubbish home.
