Handlinger

Beskrivelse

Lunden is, as the name suggests, a small island of deciduous forest, here of beech forest. But there is also some deciduous swamp forest and open grazing land with valuable heathland environments. Perhaps you will see moose, fallow deer or fox during a visit? Lunden has no paths, but its small size means that you still get a good overview.

Old beech forest

The area in and around Lunden has been forested at least since Buhrman's map of Skåne was drawn up in 1687. Today the area is dominated by planted spruce forest in which Lunden forms an "island" of deciduous forest. No modern forestry has ever taken place on the land.

In the reserve there are traces of a small clay quarry. Today it consists of a small body of water surrounded by deciduous swamp forest.

Plant and animal life

The field layer in Lunden is sparse, but the shrub layer is richer. Here you will find, among other things, yew, bramble, willow and hazel. Adjacent to an open pasture, there are heathland environments that are particularly valuable for bird life. Some fifty bird species have been observed in the reserve, including the red-listed species of starlings, stonechats and kingfishers.

No hunting takes place in or around the reserve, making it an important protected zone for mammals. Moose, fallow deer, pine marten and fox, for example, are found in Lunden.

Outdoor life

Lunden has no paths, but its small size means that you still get a good overview. Remember to take your rubbish home.

In English

Welcome to Lunden Nature Reserve

Lunden Nature Reserve lies like a small island surrounded by spruce forest. The area has been covered with broadleaved deciduous forest for hundreds of years. During the last 60 years, there has only been selected felling of wood and timber for domestic requirements.

The area is small but rich in content. Beech forest, deciduous swamp forest, pond and open pasture create a diversity of habitats. The herb layer is sparse in the beech forest, as sunlight cannot reach the ground through the leafy tree crowns. In the south-western part of the reserve, a former clay pit has transformed into a pond, surrounded by deciduous swamp forest of alder and goat willow.

The farm in the center of the nature reserve was moved here in the 1870s. The field next to the croft has been grazed since the 1960s. Like a glade in the forest, it is surrounded by species-rich, flowering edges. These are important habitats for birds and insects. The whole

reserve is full of birds, with more than 25 breeding species.
