Beskrivelse

Hjärnarps prästaskog is a municipal nature reserve located at the foot of Hallandsåsen. The land is owned by Lund Diocese. And historically, the forest has been used to pay the priest. Here you will find a beech forest with an outdoor gym and exercise trails.

The forest that paid the priest

Hjärnarp's priest's forest is owned by Lund diocese and is about 11 hectares in size. The forest is located below Hallandsåsen, west of the E6 highway. The beech forest dominates, but there is also a swamp forest and young forest. Historically, income from the forest has been used to pay the priest.

Old beech forest rich in life

There has been beech forest in Hjärnarp Priest's Forest for more than 200 years. Several old and large beech trees still remain. And these trees have high natural values. The bark is particularly attractive to unusual mosses and lichens, such as the lesser celandine and the blunt feather moss. Inside the hollows and wood flour, many small animals thrive. Ten of these are rare. One of them is the wasp-like fungus gnat, particularly special because it glows. Most exclusive and rare is the beetle blue-black brown beetle. The swamp forest is also biologically valuable. It is home to the rare plants goldenrod and umbellifer. A total of 69 so-called nature conservation species have been found.

The aim of the management is to develop a natural forest-like deciduous forest and swamp forest. This also includes creating more dead wood. Another important aim is to develop outdoor recreation.

Outdoor life

The area is an urban beech forest next to the sports ground in Hjärnarp. There are two electric light trails in the reserve and a paved footpath and cycle path that passes through. The electric light trails are 1.2 km and 1.7 km respectively and they are lit in the evenings during certain hours. At other times, visitors can light them at the entrance to the area. A signposted activity trail with suggestions for exercises runs along the path. Parking is available at Hjärnarp's sports ground and the entrance to the reserve is just next door. A lighted trail starts here and there is an outdoor gym with 8 stations.
