Beskrivelse

Gudmuntorp is a beech forest reserve located just over a mile south of Höör. It is one of the last broadleaf forests before Lundaslätten and Malmöslätten take over. A dirt road runs through the airy and flat beech forest. Parking is available at Gudmuntorp church a few hundred meters to the east.

Old forest in open landscape

In Gudmuntorp you are met by a nutritious and lush deciduous forest, where beech is the dominant tree species. The area has a long history as wooded land and a stone wall runs around large parts of the reserve. Gudmuntorp, like Rövarekulan, is located in the southern part of Höör municipality. It is a village with a strong cultural character. To the south, the open arable landscape of the Lunda plain spreads out.

Meadow beech forest with lily of the valley and yellow plister

The nutrient-rich beech forest in Gudmuntorp is called meadow beech forest. The lushness comes from the presence of lime and clay in the soil. In addition to beech, there are trees such as oak, birdberry and occasional ash. Many trees are old and very large. In places, the ground is covered with wood sorrel, lily of the valley, goat's beard, wreath, nettle bell, hazel and yellowhammer.

Food and rest for resting birds and bats

Many birds thrive in this lush deciduous forest. Species such as the skylark, green warbler, nuthatch and nutcracker live here. The forest in Gudmuntorp is also important for migrating birds. Ring-doves and flocks of chaffinches and mountain finches can spend the night here and find food. Passing thrushes, tits and birds of prey can take a break. The area is also likely to be used as a roosting site for migrating bats.

Outdoor values

The reserve is located just west of the village of Gudmuntorp near the European road E22. There is a bus stop both at the E22 (Rolsberga) and at the national road 23 that goes to Höör. Parking is available at Gudmuntorp church. The forest is flat and airy in places, and a walkable path runs through the reserve.
