Beskrivelse

Fjällmossen is a peat bog up on Linderödsåsen that has become famous for its grouse games. Nowadays, the games have ceased, but the area still has a rich bird life. The bog is home to cloudberries and the insectivorous plant sundew. In the surrounding pastures, you can see the beautiful but unusual flowers haymaker and spruce spurge.

An overgrown lake

The Fjällmossen nature reserve is a bog with surrounding forest and pastures. The bog itself is originally a lake that has become overgrown. The vegetation in the lake has turned to peat in the oxygen-poor environment. The bog is made up of two parts separated by a stretch of solid ground. This is where the grouse have been playing for a long time. Large numbers of trees have been cleared away in recent years. Nowadays the bog is open with occasional scattered small pines and birches.

Bog with cloudberries and forest birds

Bird life is rich on Fjällmossen. Cranes, snipe and woodcock all nest here. In winter you can also see wolf birds and the majestic golden eagle. Pink-purple heather and bell heather grow on the bog. The thin stems of the tufa with white tufts at the top sway in the wind. But there are also berries here; crowberries, cranberries and cloudberries.

The surrounding pastures still bear traces of the pastoral grazing of older times. A time characterized by hard grazing and lack of fertilizer. This resulted in a great diversity of meadow plants. Plants that remain from this time are haymaking and spruce spurge. These species have found it increasingly difficult to survive in today's nature, which is richer in nutrients but poorer in grazing animals. Bird life is also characterized by somewhat displaced species such as greenfinch, starling, yellowhammer, lesser spotted woodpecker and skylark.

Outdoor life

The area is a popular destination among bird lovers. From the parking lot there is a 1700 meter long path to the bird tower, which is located at the old playground of the grouse. The area is also a popular hiking route as the Skåneleden trail runs through the area to the east. Note that the path and bird tower are surrounded by a plant and animal protection area with a trespassing ban. Here it is not allowed to go outside the path during the period March 1 to June 30. Remember to take your rubbish home.
