Beskrivelse
Ekenabben is a headland covered in deciduous forest that juts out into Hammarsjön on the outskirts of Kristianstad. An accessible nature trail runs through the forest, making it possible to experience the forest's birds, flowers, strange mushrooms and insect life. Hammarsjön's rich bird life can be viewed from the bird tower at the far end of the headland. If you have a fishing license, you can try your luck at fishing in this municipal nature reserve from the jetty.
Headland with oaks and old dance pavilion
The centuries-old oaks that grow here on the headland have given the place its name. Among older Kristianstad residents, Ekenabben is perhaps still most associated with dancing and entertainment. In the 1920s, a large dance pavilion was built here, which was visited by such greats as Karl-Gerhard, Sarah Leander and Edvard Persson. The dance pavilion was demolished in the 1960s.
Hammarsjön's rich bird life
In the summer you can hear snipe playing in the open water and at the edge of the lake you might see the brown marsh harrier hunting. If you're lucky, you may even hear the bittern, water rail and small-spotted moorhen on a quiet summer evening.
Swamp forest and mushrooms
If you follow the nature trail, you will enter the heart of Ekenabben's exciting swamp forest. In the drier parts there is a splendid spring flora with whitethroats, ferns and the orchid soapwort. You may catch a glimpse of one of the many vineyard snails. Along the trail there is a platform in the middle of the swamp forest, which offers a nice view. The forest is rich in fungi, as many as 70 different species have been found. Tree fungi such as ticks are easy to spot. But there are also mushrooms with interesting names, such as wart, purple loosestrife and thorny mushrooms.
Archimedes' screw
At the pump station, just before the entrance to Ekenabben, is Archimedes' screw. The screw has its own exhibition and was used in the draining of Nosabyviken. The intervention resulted in Sweden's lowest point, which is 2.32 meters below sea level. It is also a visitor site in Kristianstads Vattenrike Biosphere Reserve. The lowest point is located just east of the entrance from the E22 towards Kristianstad city center and the hospital.
Outdoor life
Right next to Ekenabben's parking lot there is a coffee table, canopy and barbecue area. From here you have a nice view of Hammarsjön. The nature trail also starts here. It is an 800 meter long and accessible loop that leads through the forest. Some parts consist of a gravel road and some parts of a wide oak path. Benches are placed in some places. At the far end of Ekenabben there is a bird tower overlooking Hammarsjön. The tower is popular with birdwatchers, but is not accessible by wheelchair. There is an accessible fishing pier out into Hammarsjön. Buy a fishing license at naturum Vattenriket. During the high season there are toilets and water at the parking lot. Remember to take your rubbish home.
