Handlinger

Beskrivelse

Domsten-Viken is a remnant of the once extensive common land of Kulla Fälad. Parts of this coastal heath are still grazed, which you can experience by following the Skåneleden trail between Höganäs and Helsingborg. In the sea off Domsten - Viken there are shallow spawning grounds for many fish. The good availability of food makes the reserve popular with resting and migrating wading birds. There are also good chances of seeing seals. Often the seals are resting on a large shoal near the beach.

Seaweed walls that tell the story of marine life

A large part of the reserve is a sandy heath area with a narrow, rocky beach. In places, sand is carried up by the waves, sometimes forming seaweed beds. In the seaweed beds, you can find seashells and mussel shells that give a picture of life on the seabed.

Rock pines and dry meadow plants

The wooded parts consist mostly of planted mountain pine with elements of oak and birch. The herb and grass flora of the coastal heath area changes with wear and tear and rabbit grazing. Bare, dry areas provide space for mosses and lichens.

Shallow bottoms with fish and wading birds

The shallow beach is used as a resting and feeding place by migrating wading birds. The reserve extends out to the three-meter curve. The sea outside is part of the Grollegrunds Link to another website. marine nature reserve which covers about 1580 ha. The shallow hard bottoms are important as spawning and feeding grounds for various fish species.

Resting place for seals

Just off the shore, there is a shoal that is often used as a resting place for the strait's seals.

Outdoor life

The Skåneleden trail runs through Domsten-Viken on its way between Helsingborg and Höganäs. Take the opportunity to look for seals on the shoal just off the beach. Parking and bus stops are located along Christinelundsvägen, which cuts through the reserve. Remember to take your rubbish home.

In English

Welcome to Domsten-Viken Nature Reserve

The Domsten-Viken Reserve is the remains of the extensive pasture, Kulla Fälad. It is a part of an old coastal heathland landscape which has long been used by man, primarily for grazing.

Sand and stones

The area is now a sandy heath with a narrow, stony beach. In some places, the sand has been pushed up by the waves and sometimes forms banks covered in seaweed. The seaweed mixed with shells from mussels and other shellfish, gives us an idea of how the seabed looks further out.

Woodland shaped by the wind

The wooded areas consist mainly of planted mountain pine with patches of oak and birch. The flowers and grassland on the coastal heath change due to the erosion and the rabbits' grazing. Dry patches, grazed bare, provide space for mosses and lichens.

Birds and Fish

The shallow shore is used by migrating wading birds for resting and feeding. The Nature Reserve extends out to the three meter contour line. The marine area beyond is included in Grollegrund marine Nature Reserve which includes approximately 1580 hectares. The shallow, hard sea bed is an important breeding and foraging ground for fish.
