Beskrivelse

Bunkeflo beach meadows is a municipal nature reserve south of Lernacken and the Öresund Bridge in Malmö. In the protected coastal area there are both grazed beach meadows and shallow seabeds with eelgrass. These eelgrass beds act as nurseries and larders for many fish. The wildlife of the seagrass beds includes around 450 different species of birds, amphibians, butterflies and insects. Of the 300 plant species, the Danish iris is perhaps the most unique and rare. A walking and cycling path takes you north and south along the coast.

Hardy flora

The landscape at Bunkeflo beach meadows is a very old cultural product. The coastal meadows along the Sound have been used as grazing land since the Bronze Age. For more than a thousand years, the coastal meadows off Bunkeflo have been characterized by both grazing and regular flooding with salt water, which has given rise to a distinctive and hardy flora.

Unusual butterflies and birds

The wildlife on the coastal meadows includes around 450 different types of birds, amphibians, butterflies and insects. The insect fauna is rich in species on the meadows and here you will find, among other things, the butterfly species white straw fly, which only occurs on a handful of local species in the country.

The meadows are a resting place for many migratory birds on their way south. In the northern part, towards Stenören, waders such as lapwing, oystercatcher and redshank can regularly be found, as well as more common ducks and gulls. More unusual visitors such as the terek flycatcher and the dunlin have also been noted in the reserve.

Important sandy bottoms

The sandy seabed at the coastal meadows is extremely shallow - only two kilometers out does the water reach a depth of three meters. The sandy seabed is home to eelgrass beds, which are important for biodiversity. The eelgrass beds provide shelter, spawning and nursery grounds for a variety of species, such as seaweed, crayfish, eel, herring and garfish, and also act as a 'larder' for larger species.

Outdoor life

The reserves Bunkeflo beach meadows, Klaghamsudden Link to another website. and Foteviksområdet Link to another website. form a continuous coastal area that is protected from the Öresund Bridge in the north down to Höllviken in the south. Bunkeflo beach meadows are close to the urban area of Bunkeflostrand, along this border there is a footpath and cycle path that takes you north and south along the coast. There are also smaller paths to follow inside the reserve. If you are interested in birds, there is a bird tower in the northern part that you should not miss. There is a parking lot adjacent to the reserve. The nearest bus stop is Bunkeflostrand Ängsdalsvägen. Remember to take your rubbish home.
