Arriesjön-Risebjär, Naturreservat

A multi-benefit offer in itself. In addition to hiking and birdwatching, you can also fish, cycle, swim and barbecue. The Arriesjön-Risebjär nature reserve has several marked trails to choose from, some of which are accessible. There is also a bridle path. The lake is quite deep and has fresh and clear water. The small pools that can be reached along the trails are managed to benefit amphibians. Birdwatchers have the opportunity to see species such as the hobby and rosefinch in the scrubland, and the lake is home to the lapwing and the grebe, among others.

From agriculture to industry

The nature in the reserve is largely shaped by agriculture, grazing and industrial activities. The beautiful industrial building in the north once housed a limestone factory. Extensive gravel extraction has created Lake Arriesjön. Many roads and paths in Risebjär are traces of these activities.

From industry to nature

Since the industries ceased and the gravel quarries were closed in 1998, plants and animals have reclaimed the land. The calcareous and dry soil provides space for herbs such as blue alder and blue raspberry. Along with them come insects such as bluebottles and bastard moths.

Frogs and birds

The small pools of water that can be reached along the footpaths are managed to encourage amphibians. It is mainly edible frogs that you may be lucky enough to hear or see in the ponds. Birdwatchers have the opportunity to see waterfowl but also many different small birds. Species such as the hobby and rosefinch live in the shrublands. In the lake there are, among others, lapwings, grebes, black-headed gulls and terns. The reserve is also a popular resting place for migrating swallows and swifts. Lake Arrie is quite deep and has fresh, clear water. The lake contains fish that have come here naturally with waterfowl and some that have been introduced. They include roach, perch, pike, rudd and carp.

Popular hiking area

The reserve is almost 60 hectares in size and offers many opportunities for outdoor life. In addition to hiking and birdwatching, you can also go horseback riding, fishing, cycling, swimming and barbecuing at Lake Arriesjön. Remember to take your rubbish home. The area has several marked trails to choose from and some of them are accessible. There is also a bridle path.

Are you a fisherman, horse rider, bird watcher, botanist, rambler, or do you just like to sit and have a picnic or a barbeque? Then you have come to the right place. You can do any of these things in the lovely surroundings of Arriesjön - Risebjär Nature Reserve.

From agriculture to industry

The nature in the reserve is largely shaped by agriculture, grazing and industrialization. The beautiful industrial buildings to the north once housed a limestone factory. Quarrying for gravel created Lake Arriesjön. The many roads and paths that cross Risebjär are remains from these activities.

From industry to nature

Plants and animals have laid claim to the land after the industries were abandoned. The dry and limestone rich soils provide space for plants such as viper's bugloss and dewberry. With these plants, follow insects such as blue butterflies and burnet moths.

Bird watchers have the chance of seeing seabirds, but also many species of small birds. Species such as linnet and common rosefinch are associated with the scrub. The reserve is a popular resting site for migrating swallows and swifts. Lake Arriesjön is quite deep and has crisp and clear water. Fish that have colonized naturally with help from seabirds swim in the lake, alongside some that have been introduced. Roach, perch, pike, rudd and carp are some of the species that live in the lake.

Regulations

Within Arriesjön-Risebjär Nature Reserve it is forbidden to:

• Damage natural objects or formations, e.g. carve on the trees, paint stones etc.,
• Light a fire other than in areas designated by the site manager,
• Park a caravan, camper van or equivalent at the entrance area between 00.00 - 06.00,
• Dig up plants, mosses, lichens or pick wood-living fungi,
• Intentionally break, collect, take away or set fire to dead wood,
• Intentionally disturb wildlife,
• During the period from the 15th March to 15th July, come within 30 meters of the bird-islands, as marked on the map,
• Fly model aeroplanes or their equivalent,
• Bring a dog or other pet not on a lead. The length of the lead must be less than five meters,
• Horse ride other than in areas or on marked trails as designated by the site manager.

Without permission from the County Administrative Board, it is also forbidden to:

• Collect invertebrates, e.g. beetles or bees. Individual samples may be collected on the condition that this does not contravene any protection legislation and that no traps are used.

Finally, without permission from the site manager, it is forbidden to:

• Put up notices, signs, tape, inscriptions, posters or and other equivalent items,
• Undertake dog training or competitions/tests, orienteering, fishing competitions, take out boats, canoes or equivalent, camp activities or their equivalent.
