Åvarps fälad, Naturreservat

Åvarp's field is a grazed juniper field with a rich flora and several rare insects and fungi. The nature reserve is a remnant of the outlying land that once belonged to the village of Åvarp. The reserve is dominated by fields of juniper and open land, but also contains a small proportion of mixed deciduous forest. Åvarps fälad has a small parking lot.

Grazed outfield to Åvarp village

In the past, the villages had common outfields where they let the animals graze. The Åvarps fälad nature reserve is a remnant of the outfield that belonged to the village of Åvarp, a terraced village where the farms still lie side by side along the village street.

Natural pasture, or fälad in Scanian, is what this type of old pasture is usually called today, where shrubs, hedges and trees are a natural part. It is often located on land that has been difficult to cultivate and has therefore not been ploughed or fertilized. The result is an environment rich in flowers, insects and birds.

Lone field with almond blossom and woodruff

The western parts of the reserve are a varied field of juniper with shrubs and trees. In the dry parts, species such as stonewort, gray helleborine and heather grow. East of Hallabäcken there is wetter and more nutrient-rich pasture where the orchid St. Peter's keys, almond flowers and cowslips grow. Within the shrub-rich pasture, birds such as the nightingale, shrub warbler, warbler and yellowhammer thrive.

Hallabäcken meets Vege å

Hallabäcken flows down from the slope of Söderåsen and connects to Vege å, which forms the southern border of the reserve. A belt of trees grows here, and to the west of Hallabäcken in the north there is an oak-dominated forest area with sparse vegetation.

Outdoor life

Åvarps fälad is grazed by animals and the area has no trails. Avoid dogs among grazing animals. There is a small parking lot in the northwestern part of the reserve. Remember to take your trash home.
