Beskrivelse
When you walk in Medevi you really feel the wings of history. Here, most things revolve around the health well, which was founded in 1678 but which was already famous for its miraculous water during the Stone Age. In the Middle Ages, Medevi spring was part of Vadstena Abbey. It then fell into oblivion and was rediscovered in 1678. Medevi is referred to as Sweden's first spa town and it was Gustav Soop who came into contact with the stories of the springs when he bought Medevi Säteri. He had been looking for a health spring in Sweden for a long time and sent the water to the scientist Urban Hjärne who visited the spring in 1678. After a positive analysis, the first Nordic health well was found.
The well environment with its many preserved buildings - including Högbrunnen from 1809 - is today one of our most important monuments of medical history. Other buildings include the Great Well Salon, the well church, the bathhouse and Medevi Hospital. Most of the buildings are listed buildings.
