Handlinger
Beskrivelse
In the Trehörningen nature reserve you will find a hilly forest broken up by both lakes and marshes. There is plenty of dead wood here, teeming with life.
Small lights
The reserve extends around the lakes Trehörningen and Ljustjärnen. The landscape is hilly and there are plenty of boulders of all sizes. Here and there are wet hollows with high humidity. Around the pond Trehörningen there are marshlands with pine and spruce. In the mossy forest you will find the small orchid knotweed. It likes to creep up on boulders where the rhizome can grow freely and the leaf rosettes can form small mats. In high summer it blooms with small white, fragrant flowers.
Teeming with life among the dead
The spruce forest is around a hundred years old, and there is plenty of aspen and birch growing among the conifers. Many unusual species thrive in the natural forest, with trees of all ages interspersed with dead trunks. Coral lead lichen grows on the bark of old aspens and prefers when the forest is dense and closed. Foxtail lichen causes white rot and lives on dead or dying aspens that are still standing. All the dead wood in the forest is vital for a wide range of fungi, lichens and insects.
Forest fires
There have been fires in the forest from time to time. You can see this in the many deciduous trees that grow in some places. After a fire, aspen, birch and willow are the first to re-establish themselves. There was a fire some time ago in the vicinity of one of the bogs. This killed a number of spruces of varying sizes. Today they rise like dry skeletons against the sky.
