Beskrivelse
The nature reserve protects Sörsjön and Sörsjökärret with surrounding forests for the future. Despite its small size, the reserve is home to an exciting diversity of species, such as the lesser celandine and the cane moss.
Dead man's grave
Sörsjön is a dead ice pit in the mighty Hallsbergsåsen. During the end of the Ice Age, a large ice block lay in the pit. When the ice disappeared, the pit eventually filled with water.
Lesser celandine and club moss
Small springs seep out of the ridges surrounding the lake. The clean, calcareous water is reflected in the reserve's rich plant life. A small marsh to the south of the lake is home to the rare lesser celandine. The marsh is one of only two places in the county where this large, tufted semi-grass grows. The protected club moss also grows here. The moss's shoot tips are curved like the hook on a stick - there you have the explanation for the moss's name. Other less common plants in the reserve are marsh bracken, coral root, brook bracken and goldenrod.
Aquatic plants
In and around the water there is a diversity of plants. Water lilies and water lilies grow with long stems right up to the surface of the water where they show off their large leaves. The miniature leaves of duckweed float freely. From the bottom, long shoots of creeping water lily and water lily meander, and along the shores grow reeds, sedges and rushes. The water bladderwort is an interesting plant that has no roots. Instead, it has small trapping bladders that trap bugs. The trapped bugs dissolve into a nutrient soup, which the bladderwort can feed on.
Availability
Sörsjön belongs to level 1 in the County Administrative Board's leveling of the county's nature reserves, which means that the reserve has a wilderness character and lacks outdoor recreation facilities.
