Porla Brunn

Porla well, Porla, is an industrial community and former well site near Hasselfors.

Porla well was used for drinking from 1724-1939. The writer Selma Lagerlöf, among others, stayed here.

During the 18th century, Porla well was relatively unknown, but received a boost in the 19th century, especially after Jöns Jacob Berzelius analyzed the well water in 1806 and demonstrated its high levels of iron and carbonic acid. Porla well was then considered an important source of healing, especially for treatments against gout and rheumatism. A limited company took over the spring in 1874, and in addition to the older Gamla källan and Patrikskällan springs, a new one, Nya källan, was built in 1896. In the 20th century, Porla brunn became known for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
