Lodjursknixen

This trail is a mix of forest path and gravel road. You start with a beautiful forest road, then following a little path up and down until the lake of Tarmlången. The rest of the trail follows gravel road, a little bit of asphalt and back to a little path which is quite demanding.

Parts of the trail are shared with horseback riders, please mind of each other!

Tivedstorp

You start at Tivedstorp, one of Tivedens old Finnish villages. In the 17th century Finns came here with the intention to populate this uninhabited wilderness, attracted by offers of free land and 6 years of tax exemption. They cleared land in the forest and started cultivating their crop “Svedjeråg”. The village of Tivedstorp grew and by the end of the 19th century it had around 140 inhabitants. After people migrated to the cities in the early 20th century the empty village was bought up by a voluntary organization which received refugees and later it became the hostel and café and remains so until today.

Tarmlången

From the parking at Tivedstorp you follow the Bergslagsleden around the village and turn into a beautiful grassy forest road. Here you share the trail with horseback riders, please take it easy and stop when you meet horses. Later you cross the road which winds through the national park and you follow the gravel road towards Vitsand. After a little bit the trail turns to the right into the forest and now you start a journey up and down through the forest until you come out by the lake of Tarmlången. This is one of the longest and most outstanding valleys which formed in prehistoric times due to movement of the earth´s crust. As the rock rose up, water got into the cracks and due to erosion over time, these cracks became a valley with a lake.

Bastlandsängen

After the lake you follow a gravel road all the way to the asphalt road, stay here for approximately 700 meters and then turn onto the gravel road towards Bastlandsängen, one of Tivedstorps old farm houses. Here the trail becomes a forest path again and leads you along stone cairns and the old stonewalls of the fields.

After a last bit of gravel road, you follow the forest path which takes you straight up to Tivedstorps café.
