Beskrivelse
Stora Njakajaure Nature Reserve is located in a low-lying part of the landscape, surrounded by mountains and low fells. Here, there is a mosaic of forest areas, marshes, and small lakes, as well as block fields where only lichens manage to grow. The area has significant value for forest species and bears traces of both contemporary and historical human use.
The varied nature of Stora Njakajaure creates habitats for many plants and animals. The bedrock contains basic rocks such as basalt and andesite, which favor specialized plants like the orchid Spiranthes. Rare wood fungi and woodpeckers, such as the three-toed woodpecker and black woodpecker, also thrive here.
The landscape has a long history of human use, and today it is important for reindeer herding, serving as calving grounds for the reindeer. At the other end of the lake, there are remnants of an old hut and a reindeer enclosure, which testify to the area's previous use.
