Junkerkölen

Junkerkölens Nature Reserve is a fascinating place where sloping deciduous coniferous forests meet the meandering Mjövattenbäcken, creating a high level of humidity in the area. From the steep sides of Mount Junkerkölen, visitors can enjoy a stunning view of Lake Junkerträsket. This area is home to a diverse array of rare species, making it a true natural gem.

In the reserve, named after the impressive mountain, you can discover a rich flora and fauna. The trees are adorned with knotted blue lichen and lungwort, and you may also spot signs of beavers and the three-toed woodpecker. In the southeastern part of the reserve, a steep cliff drops down the side of Junkerkölen, where the alpine catchfly, typically found in the mountains, blooms.

The Mjövattenbäcken flows through the area and is part of the Pite River system, which previously featured a dam that has now been removed, adding to the natural feel of this beautiful landscape.
