Dundret tyst område

Kalfjället Dundret offers magnificent mountain experiences just 10 minutes from the village. There are hiking trails, rest cabins and views over one eleventh of Sweden's surface.

Worth seeing: from the top you can see one eleventh of Sweden's surface and the Kebnekaise massif on a clear day. From here you also have a great opportunity to enjoy the midnight sun.

The back of Dundret as a quiet area:

One of the nice things about reaching the backside of the mountain Dundret is not only that it becomes quieter when you get a bit away from the community, you also avoid looking at industrial complexes and mining facilities. The area is also one of the few in the vicinity of Gällivare where the many snowmobiles in the area do not have access.

When we visited the site, as part of a LONA project mapping quiet areas, the wind was blowing for 15 seconds so any noise was effectively camouflaged. However, the distance from communities and major roads makes the backside of Dundret a safe place to find relaxation and tranquillity.

Investigating the sound qualities of the area

We visited the back of Dundret on June 30, it was +14 degrees, blew about 8 seconds and was clear weather.
