Beskrivelse

The village of Bro is mentioned as early as 1545 and has always benefited from its beautiful location by the Ronnebyån. The village has arranged a nice rest area right next to the river with a view of the old stone bridge.

In 1910, the old wooden bridge was rebuilt into today's stone bridge with four arches.

Ronnebyån already had three grist mills and two grist mills in 1580. Before 1915 there were six water wheels at the falls. One that ran an engraving, one that ran a sawmill, and the remaining four waterwheels ran the mill. In 1915, the mill was rebuilt. Then they removed the water wheels and installed two turbines instead. At that time three to four men worked at the mill and farmers who lived up to three miles from Bro came to grind here. In 1962 it was ground for the last time in the mill.

Today, the turbines produce electricity. In the village there is now a wood products company that has been active in the industry since 1901 and is run as a family business in the fifth generation. The sawmill part has been phased out in recent years, but planing, the packaging industry and haulage have developed instead.
