Beskrivelse
The nature reserve is located in Uknadalen, the county's most magnificent rift valley. The reserve protects a unique composition of different types of nature in the county. The varied nature is home to many plants and animals.
Nature for many
The reserve contains a valuable mosaic of broadleaf forests, coniferous forests and mixed forests. The forests grow in a varied landscape with rocky areas, cliffs and stream ravines. Both deciduous and coniferous species thrive in this diverse nature. In addition, there are old and coarse trees in the forests, which are appreciated by species that do not thrive in modern forests.
Divided into two
The reserve is divided into two sub-areas. The area bordering the eastern side of Lake Rammen is dominated by rocky areas and breathtaking cliffs. East of Hägerudden, the mountain plunges 60 meters straight down into the lake! The western area is more easily accessible. There is a hiking trail that starts from the parking lot in the northwest. Along the trail you pass many large oaks with wide crowns. The growth pattern of the crowns indicates that the oaks grew up in a more open landscape compared to what it looks like today.
Rarities are common
Compared with other large areas in the county, there are an unusually large number of rare and threatened species in the reserve. Examples of rarities are the grass lousewort, wood bustard, green shield moss, dark lichen, leather lichen, oxtongue fungus and hedgehog mushroom. Many species are linked to the slopes and to areas where deciduous trees have existed for a long time.
Traces of the past
Thanks to the abundance of ancient remains, we know that people have lived and worked in the area since the Bronze Age. In the western part of the reserve are the remains of an ancient castle. Other ancient remains consist of old graves in the form of stone circles and cairns.
