Beskrivelse

In the reserve's lean rocky areas, you walk between rough pine trees with thick armored bark. If you move down the slopes, you are instead met by lush deciduous forest with many exciting plants. Here and there are large aspens and large, hollow oaks. The trees are home to many different organisms.

Species-rich

In the reserve's deciduous forests, wood anemone, black witch hazel, woundwort, fern, spring pea and many other plants flower in spring and early summer. The stonechat, a colorful but shy bird that lives in the high tree crowns, also thrives here. On old trees you can see several different ticks. The ox tongue fungus prefers coarse oak trunks, while the pine tick grows on pines that are at least 100 years old. Old oaks are also home to many different lichens. If you look closely at the furrowed bark of the trees, you can see the different colors and shapes of the lichens.

Aspen and nesting birds

The reserve's large aspens are valuable for bird life. The robin likes to peck out its nest hole in the old trees. The abandoned holes then become homes for other hole-nesting species that cannot peck out holes themselves, such as wood pigeons. The trees are also home to insect larvae and other bugs. This in turn attracts lesser spotted woodpeckers and other birds that feed on the larder provided by the decaying wood.

Historic environment

Tyllinge Manor is mentioned in writing as early as 1318. The current main building dates from the 18th century, when an English-style garden was also laid out to connect with the surrounding farmland. The park extended all the way up to Skaberget, which is now part of the nature reserve. For a time there was even a gazebo on the mountain. Even today, there are fine views from the top of the heights.
