Beskrivelse
Tomteby's nature is typical of the Mittland Forest - a mosaic of lush broadleaf forests, pine and birch forests and damp marshes. The varied nature paves the way for a rich plant and animal life. Unusual fungi, lichens and plants that don't thrive in modern forests find a haven here.
Forest with variety
The reserve's lush deciduous forests are home to oak, ash, lime, elm and maple. Hazel is common throughout the reserve, and birch and pine also grow to the east. There is a great variety of tree species and ages, and there are plenty of fallen tree trunks, stumps and dry trees. These environments, which have not been cultivated on any large scale, are very valuable habitats for a wide range of plants and animals.
Inhabitants of the forest
The reserve is home to several unusual fungi and herbs. Toothwort, water lily, spring pea and yellow dock are characteristic species in the rich moss of the deciduous forest. Scots pennywort, lesser celandine and common knotweed are examples of less common vascular plants in the area. In terms of fungi, the hazel-rich forests of the Mittland Forest are among the most species-rich in Europe. Some of the reserve's rarities are the giant comb mushroom, the olive scale mushroom and the candelabra mushroom.

Regler
In the nature reserve you are not allowed:
- Drive a motorized vehicle off designated roads or trails.
- Set up a motorhome, caravan or similar.
- Camp for more than one day in the same place.
- Bringing a dog or other animal that is not on a leash.
- Put up a board, sign, poster or similar device or make inscriptions.
- Make a fire.
- Picking or damaging mosses, lichens or wood fungi.
- Digging or pulling up plants or parts of plants by their roots.
- Damage or remove trees, stumps, bark, branches, bushes or reeds that are growing or dead.
If you have permission from the County Administrative Board, you may:
- Use the area for competitions or exercises.
- Carry out commercial activities.
After consultation with the County Administrative Board, you may:
- Collect insects.
- Conduct surveys or research.

C. Regulations for the public according to Chapter 7, Section 30 of the Environmental Code on the right to travel and stay in the reserve and on order in general within the reserve.
It is forbidden to enter the reserve:
- drive motorized vehicles other than on existing public roads.
- Set up a caravan, motorhome or similar.
- Camping for more than one consecutive day in the same place.
- Bring an unleashed dog or other loose pet.
- Put up a board, sign, poster or similar device or make an inscription.
- making a fire
- picking wood fungi, mosses or lichens
- Digging or pulling up plants or plant parts by the roots.
- Damage or remove growing or dead trees, stumps, bark, branches, bushes or brushwood.
- Without the permission of the County Administrative Board, use the area for competition or training purposes.
- Without the permission of the County Administrative Board, use the area for commercial use of the right of public access.
- Without consultation with the County Administrative Board, carry out collection, surveys or research.
The regulations under C do not apply to owners or holders of special rights to property or holders of other rights.
