Beskrivelse
The average age of the trees in Strömbys forests is just over 100 years. There is plenty of dead wood and there are few traces of modern forestry. This makes for a rich plant and animal life, with many unusual species.
Forest reserve
The reserve is dominated by older coniferous forest. A few deciduous trees also grow here. The trees are of varying ages, the oldest pines are about 200 years old. Where the terrain is rocky, the otherwise dense forest opens up and becomes sparse and patchy.
Natural forest
It's been a long time since anyone felled trees in this forest. The occasional old stump can be found, but no large-scale felling has ever been done. The forest takes care of itself, so there are standing dead trees as well as fallen trees and stumps. Old forests that have been untouched for a long time are called natural forests.
Sanctuary for many
Old trees and dead wood are very valuable habitats for a range of plants and animals. Especially if, as here in Strömby, there are trees and dead wood in both closed, moist environments and dry, sun-exposed ones. Examples of unusual species in the reserve that are linked to dead wood or old pine trees are the wood bustard, pine thistle, spruce shoot and the common crow.
Ancient fires
In the middle of the reserve is a small fire field. It is reminiscent of a fire that occurred in 1999. On the outskirts of the reserve there is also a larger fire field from a fire in 2003.

The reserve is reached by car via a small, private forest road starting at Sörgården in Strömby.
Regler
In the nature reserve you are not allowed:
- Drive any vehicle.
- Set up a caravan or trailer.
- Camp for more than one day in the same place.
- Deliberately disturb wildlife.
- Bringing a dog or other animal that is not on a leash.
- Put up a board, sign, poster or similar device or make inscriptions.
- Making a fire.
- Digging, pulling up or picking plants or plant parts. You may pick berries and edible mushrooms.
- Damage or remove trees, stumps, bark, branches, bushes or reeds that are growing or dead.
After consultation with the County Administrative Board, you may:
- Collect insects.
- Conduct survey or research.
If you have received permission from the County Administrative Board, you may:
- Carry out commercial activities.
Full regulations
C. Regulations according to Chapter 7, Section 30 of the Environmental Code on the right to travel and stay in the reserve and on order in general.
In addition to what otherwise applies, it is prohibited to:
- drive any kind of vehicle
- set up a caravan or trailer
- camping for more than one day in the same place
- disturbing wildlife
- Bringing an unleashed dog or other loose pet.
- Put up a board, sign, poster or similar device or make an inscription.
- Build a fire.
- Digging up, picking or damaging plants or parts of plants, with the exception of berries and edible mushrooms for domestic use.
- Damage or remove growing or dead trees, stumps, bark, branches, bushes or brushwood.
- Without consultation with the County Administrative Board, carry out collection, investigation or research.
- conduct commercial activities without the permission of the County Administrative Board.
Regulations 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 under C, according to Chapter 7, Section 30 of the Environmental Code, do not apply to landowners and holders of special rights.
