Beskrivelse

The reserve protects a pebble ridge that has been grazed and mown for generations. A great diversity of animals and plants makes the wooded pasture one of the most valuable in the county. Welcome to beautiful and species-rich nature!

Current in the reserve 2024

The county administrative board's budget for nature conservation and outdoor life sometimes changes and right now we have less money to allocate. The priority is then to manage our natural values in the first place and outdoor recreation facilities in the second place. As a result, this year we are closing a number of toilets in reserves and removing rubbish bins in several protected areas in the county.

In Lunden, the toilet will be closed and all waste management will cease.

Inlandsisens verk

The pebble ridge in the reserve was formed during the Ice Age. Meltwater flowed through the huge ice sheet, bringing with it stones, gravel and sand. As the rivers of meltwater flowed out in front of the ice, the material sank to the bottom. As the ice edge moved, elongated ridges, known as pebble ridges, built up.

Species-rich pastures

A number of meadow and pasture plants grow on the reserve's dry, open slopes, such as cat's-foot, box-bracken, haymaking, wood anemone and axveronica. Rarer species include spiderwort, field gentian, narrow-leaved lungwort and cross-leaved alder. The herbs attract butterflies, bees and other nectar-eating insects, which in turn become food for insectivorous birds.

Valuable trees

The ridge is also home to the heat-loving oak. Several of the trees are old, with a broad crown and rough trunk. Unusual lichens such as yellow drop lichen and shadow angel lichen grow on the furrowed bark. Bird life is rich in the wooded pastures. Examples of nesting species include the cuckoo, lesser spotted woodpecker, hobby, woodlark, great tit and woodcock.
