Beskrivelse

Länsmansgårdsängens nature reserve has both deciduous meadows and deciduous forests. In spring and summer, you can discover an exciting grove flora among the reserve's old trees and shrubs.

Farmed land

As the name Länsmansgårdsängen suggests, you are on old meadow land. Parts of the land have also been used as fields, as evidenced by several cairns. The western and southern parts of the reserve are still managed as meadows. The land is mowed in mid-summer, when the plants have had time to set seed. Management also includes spring cleaning in early April, when branches and last year's leaves are raked up.

Pollarded trees

In the western part of the nature reserve there are many pollarded lime trees. The trees are gnarled and low-growing with branches radiating from the upper part of the trunk. They are also often hollow and therefore popular with bats, cavity-nesting birds and wood-boring insects. The trees are pollarded approximately every five years, when the shoots are cut off.

Lund and forest

Sturdy oaks, pollarded lime trees and old hazel bushes give the deciduous meadow in the western part of the reserve a grove-like character. Many different herbs grow in the rich soil, such as wood anemone, buttercups, ferns, tooth root, hop flowers and the endangered species narrow-leaved lungwort. The eastern part of the reserve consists of a deciduous forest area with old oaks and the occasional ash and elm. Large alders and birches also grow here. There is a lot of dead wood in the deciduous forest, which benefits many insects and birds.

Beautiful nature

Länsmansgårdsängen is a popular hiking area with several trails to choose from. If you need a rest on the way, there are benches to sit on. One of the highlights of the year is spring, when carpets of wood anemones and the occasional cornflower bloom under the delicate foliage of the trees.
