Målerås

Målerås emerged as a community in 1876 when the railroad was built in the forests between Nybro - Sävsjöström (later to Nässjö) and the area's sawmill needed a loading place.

When you come to Målerås, you can experience all the stages of glassmaking and blow your own bowl. In Barnens Glasrike there is a playhouse, playground and the children can try to blow glass digitally with the characters Ebba and Ture.

At the glassworks you will find Kristallshopen and Hantverkshuset with sales of local products. If you follow the railway embankment past the station house, you will see the impressive loading dock and soon you will come to the excavation site of the original smelter from 1890. After a few more steps, you can step into the leather factory shop.

If you feel like a hike or want to take a swim, the resort's swimming area Långegöl is 2 km away. Here is also the start of a seven km long hiking trail - In the footsteps of the ice age - or - Trollstigen - 3 km for children. Nearby there is also a mountain bike area with several trails.

**Sävsjöström

This tour takes you to Sävsjöström. A town that was established in the late 1600s. There have been ironworks, blast furnaces, pulp and paper mills, sawmills and it has also been an important railway junction. Today it is an idyllic place by Lake Alstern, where Alsterån also has its outlet. There is a swimming area and a 1.7 km long hiking trail - Bruksleden.

On the way to Sävsjöström, you can visit Johanstorp, which is the foundation of Målerås Glassworks. The flower king Carl Linnaeus rested and changed horses in Merhult on his way to Öland in 1741.

**Höneström

In Höneström there are remains from the Orrefors ironworks and sawmill eras and a hiking trail to the Uvaklöva gorge. The Alsterån river has an impoundment here with fishing spots, also for the disabled. Fishing license required. TC and rest and barbecue areas are available.

At the dam is the old blacksmith's house. It has served as Orrefors Glasbruk's hunting and fishing lodge for royalty, Sweden's artistic elite and business leaders.

After Höneström you pass one of Sweden's widest stone walls.
