Beskrivelse
Come and enjoy Stensjö village, Kalmar County's first cultural reserve. Here in the village you can, among other things, walk in the old cultural landscape around the undivided village with buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The cluster of red-painted houses is in turn located in a bright, open landscape, with winding narrow gravel roads and kilometers of fences.
Stensjö by transports you far back in time to a landscape that has been created by haymaking and grazing over the centuries and is still managed, in part, in the traditional way. Sheep, cows and pigs live in the pastures. Chickens also roam freely in the village. The environment is also recognizable from Astrid Lindgren's films about the Children in the Noisy Village, as several scenes are shot directly in the village or on the roads around the village.
The village of Stensjö is first mentioned in writing in 1351 - Stenzöö, "the rocky island". The name is explained by looking at what the landscape looked like before streams and other watercourses were drained to make way for farmland. The oldest map of Stensjö dates from 1709. The whole of Stensjö was then owned by Wendela Hammarskjöld and farmed by a tenant farmer. When the major land transfer was carried out in 1815-1816, there were five owners, but the transfer led to a dispute, which was the reason why the next reform, the 1850 legal transfer, was not carried out here. Thanks to this, all the farms remained in the village instead of being moved out.
Hiking in Stensjö village
It is also possible to walk three different marked hiking trails around the cultural landscape to further take in the beautiful surroundings: Viråslingan (1.3 km), Ängsslingan (1.3 km), Skogsslingan (2.9 km), Madslingan (1.8 km), Mörkeviksslingan (1.3 km). The East Coast Trail also runs through the village.
Tilias café in Stensiögården
Tilia's café is located in Stensjö village. The café is located in Stensiögården and is named after Tilia, who lived in the farm around the turn of the century 1900. Tilia used to hold coffee parties for her friends at Stensiögården.
Tilia's café is open all year round and offers seasonal offerings for you as a guest. Take the opportunity to visit with family and friends for a good coffee or snack.
