Beskrivelse
In this nature reserve, you can walk through old-growth forest that has been untouched for generations. Pine and spruce are the most common tree species in the reserve, but you will also come across exotic species such as yew, thuja and Douglas fir.
Old coniferous forest
The coniferous forest in the central parts of the reserve has managed itself for a long time. There are therefore plenty of old, coarse pines and decaying dead wood. These old-growth forests are valuable habitats for a variety of organisms, such as wood-dwelling insects, fungi, lichens and mosses.
Yew and other exotic conifers
The forest in the area has been protected since 1937, when a so-called Domain Reserve was established. The main reason for protecting the forest was the presence of the rare yew, a species that still grows in the central parts of the reserve. Thuja, weymouth pine and Douglas fir are other exotic features of the forest. These species are kept in check so that they do not take over the forest environment.
Diversity among species
In the forest you will find common forest species such as bilberry, lily of the valley, sorrel and linden. There are also plants that indicate that the soil contains lime, such as toothwort, woodruff and horsetail. In the fall, a variety of fungi appear. Mushroom connoisseurs will be able to identify rarities such as the plugged funnel fungus and the oak wax fungus. If you are interested in lichens, you can look for barnacle lichen and cat's foot lichen on old trees in the reserve.

Follow the road from Byrum towards Skäftekärr north, just before you reach Skäftekärr there are signs for Idegransreservatet on the left. Once there, there are picnic tables and a marked trail through the reserve.
Regler
In the nature reserve you are not allowed:
- Drive any vehicle.
- ride a horse
- camp.
- Make a fire.
- Bringing a dog or other animal that is not on a leash.
- Put up a board, sign, poster or similar device or make inscriptions.
- Damage or remove trees, shrubs, stumps, bark or branches that are growing or dead.
- Digging, pulling up or picking plants or plant parts. You may pick berries and edible mushrooms.
- Deliberately disturb wildlife.
- Be closer than 100 meters to a bird of prey's nest, lair or burrow.
- Use the area for competitions or exercises.
- Carry out commercial activities.
After consultation with the County Administrative Board, you may:
- Conduct survey or research.
Full regulations
C. Regulations according to Chapter 7, Section 30 of the Environmental Code on the right to travel and stay in the reserve and on order in general.
In addition to prohibitions and regulations in other legislation, it is prohibited to
- drive any kind of vehicle,
- riding horses
- camping
- make fires
- bring an unleashed dog or other loose pet,
- put up a board, sign, poster or similar device or make an inscription
- damage or remove growing or dead trees, stumps, bark, branches or bushes
- digging up, picking or damaging plants or plant parts with the exception of berries and edible mushrooms
- disturb wildlife, for example by deliberately staying closer than 100 m to a bird of prey's nest, lair or burrow.
- use the area for competition or training purposes
- conduct commercial activities,
Surveys or research must be carried out in consultation with the County Administrative Board.
