Välkommen till vårt fantastiska friluftsliv i v...
Hönstorp is one of several valuable nature areas in Mittlandsskogen. There is a mosaic of deciduous forests, swamp forests, small waters and pastures. The reserve is rich in rare and endangered fungi, vascular plants and beetles.
The Mittland forest has been used by humans for a long time. There are countless cairns, stone walls and fossilized fields that bear witness to this. During the 20th century, forests grew up on former fields and hay meadows. The sparse oak trees you come across here and there are a remnant of the era of more open land. For nature conservation, the task now is to maintain or recreate the mosaic landscape that characterized Mittlandet for millennia.
Hönstorp is home to an outstanding wealth of species. The mosaic of different habitats is one explanation, the calcareous soil another. A third very important piece of the puzzle is grazing. The animals' trampling creates patches of soil valuable for, among other things, discerning soil fungi. Grazing also contributes to a sparser forest with sun-warmed glades.
In Hönstorp's broadleaf forests you can find many deciduous trees, such as oak, lime, ash, wood elm, grove elm and the rare willow elm. There is also plenty of hazel, which is characteristic of the Mittland forest. The flora also includes wood anemone, yellow anemone and hollow needlewort, as well as rare grasses such as shadow lousewort, rough lousewort and wood sorrel.
