Svartån Sommen-Säbysjön

The Svartån river between Säbysjön and Sommen flows through the urban area of Tranås and provides both aesthetic and natural values that enhance the lives of both people and animals. People have been carrying out activities along this stretch of the Svartån for a long time and this has left its mark. Eutrophication, pollution and regulation of fish migration routes are problems that remain to be solved. Much is being done, but many measures are costly, long-term and not always proportionate in relation to how public interest and property rights would be restricted. However, both bird life and fishing are rich and the river is bordered by several wetlands that offer significant ecosystem services.
