Sockerklaras lekpark

Sockerklaras is a natural playground and therefore the playground equipment is made of natural materials that blend well into the park.

In the spring of 2023, three school classes in Sävsjö municipality were involved in deciding how the playground should be designed and what equipment should be here. The playground was inaugurated in 2024.

This park is named after Sockerklara, whose real name was Kajsa Petersdotter.

She lived in a small house in the northern part of the park in the early 1900s. Sockerklara made a living by boiling sweets, which she sold at markets in Sävsjö and elsewhere.

The park is part of the Sävsjö Garden. Sävsjö municipality works to create parks, flower beds and plantings that are not only pleasant to look at but also increase biodiversity.

In this park, the superhero salix works to ensure a clean environment. Salix roots suck up hazardous substances from the soil and collect them in their stems and branches.

In the past, we weren't as careful about what we released into the environment. We didn't know how different substances could affect or harm the environment. Now we know much more. We also know how to clean up contaminated soil. One way is to plant a plant called salix. Salix grows quite fast. Every two years, we cut it down and burn the parts that contain dangerous substances. Salix continues to grow here in the park, taking up more hazardous substances, and eventually the soil will be clean.

While the superhero is working, you can walk, run, cycle and play in the park. Just before the salix is cut down, it is really tall and it becomes almost like a jungle.
