Beskrivelse
Sandvik Church is beautifully situated on a headland by Lake Fegen. People have gathered here since the Middle Ages. According to legend, it was a wealthy woman who was responsible for the church being built. She was on her way across Fegen when she got into serious trouble at sea. In her despair, she prayed to God and promised to build a church if she was saved. The boat washed ashore right here on the headland and the woman kept her promise.
Over the centuries, the church has suffered several fires. In 1644, it was burned down by the Danes during the turmoil of the war. Today, the current church, built in red granite in the 1890s, stands as an impressive landmark and a living cultural heritage.
During the summer months, the area buzzes with life. In the charming parish house next to the church, you can enjoy a summer café and browse local crafts.
It is also incredibly beautiful to walk around the area. The paths along Fegen's beach offer peaceful views and sparkling water. For those traveling by motorhome, there is a parking lot next to the church.
