Beskrivelse
Linnea Jörpeland was born in Växjö but lives in Sollentuna, and she is educated at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm. She often works in a site-specific manner and always with humor present, but at the same time with a seriousness behind it. She works in both small and large formats and enjoys creating art where there is more for the viewer to discover than they might initially think. Linnea has created many public artworks, often featuring human or animal motifs.
The artist wishes to describe Kärda with the words: commitment, care, and community. She has embodied this in the artwork in the form of an open hand with the palm facing upward. In the palm, one can see a map of Kärda, depicted as lifelines. The three house sparrows sitting on the hand symbolize the foster children that Mormor at Herrestad, Emelie Petersson, once cared for. She called them her "house sparrows" because of their gray wool and homespun clothing. But in Linnea's depiction, all children, then as now, are house sparrows in need of care and love.
The hand is cast in bronze and rests on a base of black granite (from Rydaholm).
The artwork was purchased by the municipality of Värnamo in 2024.
