Are you looking for a nature experience with a wilderness feel? Then Lunnamossen is the reserve for you. Lunnamossen is an area characterized by silence, stillness and unspoiled nature. It can be difficult to get across the bog, but you can walk on the edges and experience its nature.
Lunnamossen consists mainly of open marshland, but there are also islands of solid ground in the wetland, known as marsh islands. On these islands there is natural pine forest and mixed coniferous forest. The forest has been untouched for a long time and many old pines rise to the sky. In 2013, an old pine tree on the northeastern edge of the bog was aged. The age of the pine was estimated at over 400 years, which means it started growing in the late 16th century. This is the oldest known pine in Halland County.
Many exciting plants thrive here
Among the plants growing in the reserve are marsh lily, moor grass, meadowsweet, cranberry and pine. There are also many different types of mosses, such as sooty white moss, horned white moss, floating white moss, magnificent white moss and ruby white moss. Birdlife is rich in the area, including nesting capercaillie, black grouse, skylark and resting cranes.
Traces of the past can be found in the area
A map of the area was made in 1816. Lunnamossen was then called "Lönsmåssen" where "lön" probably comes from the Old Swedish löna with the meaning hide, hide. "To lunna" was in older times an expression for "to drive logs or wood in the forest/on the outfield". The name of the bog may possibly have something to do with this activity. Within the boundaries of the nature reserve there are two ancient remains areas. They consist of the remains of crofts from Hästhult and Lilla Hästhult. These sites are marked with information posts by the local history society.

Lunnamossen is located in Hylte municipality.Public transport: Bus stop "Unnaryd" is 2 kilometers from the reserve.Car: 1 kilometer northeast of Unnaryd. Directions from Unnaryd: From Bolmenvägen, which is the main road through Unnaryd, first turn north on Österlånggatan. Then east (right) onto Slätterydsvägen, also signposted "Äsphult". After about 1.5 kilometers you pass Lunnamossen on the left side.
Regler
To protect the nature reserve, the County Administrative Board has decided on special regulations, including those that you as a visitor to the area must follow and respect.
In addition to what applies under other legislation, it is forbidden to:
- drive a motorized vehicle in the terrain or park other than in the designated place,
- have a caravan or motorhome parked within the reserve between 24-06,
- bring an unleashed dog or other loose pet,
- planting plant or animal species alien to the area,
- damage living or dead standing or lying trees, rough branches and bushes,
- damaging, picking or collecting plants. However, picking berries and individual specimens of non-protected plants is permitted,
- collect insects, spiders, snails and other invertebrates without the permission of the County Administrative Board. However, individual specimens may be collected provided that it does not violate the conservation regulations and that traps are not used,
- organize camps or competitions without the permission of the County Administrative Board, and
- without the permission of the County Administrative Board, conduct scientific studies that contravene the regulations.
