Beskrivelse
Hållsundsudde-Sönnerbergen consists of the three headlands on the southernmost tip of the Onsala Peninsula and the surrounding archipelago. In the area there is moorland and nice views towards Malön and Nidingen. In summer you can swim from fine cliffs. There are no marked hiking trails, but there are many well-maintained paths in the reserve that you can walk on. On the peninsula Mönster you can get a picture of the former shipping in the area, here there are two old pilot houses and a pilot lookout left.
The landscape consists mainly of moorland and small areas of forest. The terrain is hilly, and wet heaths and wet meadows have formed in the hollows, where china grass and hemlock grow. Along the rocky beaches, trift, beach mallow and yellow buttercup grow. Shore cabbage and sea swan grow on the rocky shores. Many seabirds nest on the islands in the archipelago, and in the fall the area is an interesting migration site for small birds. The sand lizard, a species that requires warmth, is also found in the area.
Traces from the past
The area was previously used as outlying land (pasture) for nearby villages and there have also been small stone cottages on the outlying land down to the sea. One still exists on the southern part of Sönnerbergen, the cottage was inhabited until the end of the 19th century. The moors are still grazed, but interruptions in grazing have led to large parts of the moors being overgrown today.
Several ancient monuments on the island
There are several ancient monuments on the peninsula, including cairns dating back to the Bronze Age and labyrinths that are believed to have been used from the Iron Age and well into historical times. Finds of Stone Age settlements have also been made. There is also a stone settlement and a cemetery from historical times, called the Danish Cemetery.
Traces of older shipping
The bays between the headlands and islands on the southernmost Onsala peninsula have been used as harbors and anchorages from early times. In 1726, a state pilot was established at Mönster and in 1770 a pilot lookout was built on top of a Bronze Age cairn. The pilot lookout, a small red and white painted building, is still on the cairn and from here you have a nice view of Malön and Nidingen.
At the end of the 19th century, four pilot families lived on the island. Two of the pilot houses are still there. Closest to the water is the pilot master's house from around 1880 and closest to the pilot lookout is a pilot cabin.
