Bockstensstigen

Bockstens mosse The so-called Bockstensmannen, which is in the county museum in Varberg, was found at this site. The find is unique as the peat's humic acids preserved body, clothes and even brain and hair.

The find was made at midsummer 1936 in connection with peat extraction in the bog. The body was pierced by three wooden stakes, which is why it is believed to be a murder committed in the mid-14th century. The medieval costume is unique; it is the only completely preserved male costume in Europe.

The Goatstone Trail runs largely through Nabben Nature Reserve. An analysis of pollen from a bog at Bocksten has shown that beech migrated into the area in the 6th century. The fact that there has been beech in the area for a very long time means that there are many rare species growing on the old trees. The lichen flora is particularly rich in species. The rarest ones even have exclusive names; small noble lichen and noble crown lichen are examples of such species. But these crustose lichens are small and often difficult to recognize. The lung lichen, however, is easy to recognize from a distance. The lichen has a large, green and lobed abdomen that becomes more intense in color when it rains.
