Åkulla boksskogar
Välkommen till Åkulla bokskogar
Go exploring in the magical and timeless Torstorpsskogen forest and be fascinated by the old ways of thinking from the past. A popular excursion destination suitable for both young and old.
About 20 km east of Varberg you will find the mountainous Torstorpsskogen. Over a large area in the beautiful surroundings there are hundreds of inscriptions on stones, rocks and boulders. Sayings, sentences and names of more or less famous people. Collectively, these are known as the Bexell speaking stones.
It was the lord of the manor and member of parliament Alfred Bexell (1831-1900), who in the late 1800s commissioned two stonemasons to make these inscriptions around his estate in Torstorp. The background to this painstaking work is not known, but one theory is that he simply wanted to pass on his philosophy of life to future generations. Another theory is that he was afraid that the Swedish language would die out.
Take road 153 towards Rolfstorp. After the village of Rolfstorp, turn right towards Grimeton. Continue straight ahead to Torstorp farm. After 3 km turn left at the sign Golfbana. Pass the golf course and then continue a few kilometers into the forest until you come to a large parking lot. There is also an information board showing where the stones are located.
