Beskrivelse

In addition to Gotland's medieval rural churches, several medieval church ruins remain in the countryside. One of them is the island church of Gann.

The ruin consists of a chancel, nave and tower. The ruin has preserved portals and window surrounds, especially the south portal of the nave is well preserved. With the help of these we can get an idea of when the church was built. From the preserved window frames and portals, it is believed that the church was built in the middle of the 13th century, and then abandoned in the 16th century.

As you can see, the stones are now unplastered, but the church building was probably plastered in its original state.

Right next door you will find Hångers källa, which is said to be the place where Israel Kolmodin got inspiration for the hymn Den blomstertid nu kommer.

Well worth a visit!
