At the Travel Center we can meet a form that is geometric and rigid, yet seems to be in constant motion inward, like a vortex, a maelstrom.

The inner soft round volume of the sculpture meets the angular exterior, creating a play between hard and soft, between negative space and positive space. Therefore, the work can be experienced as both hard and soft simultaneously - both still and in motion.

The sculpture was created by the well-known artist Arne Jones. During his lifetime, Jones produced a considerable number of public sculptures nationally, including several in central Sandviken.

Jones often developed his sculptures from a basic form, which is built up and varied in different ways. Many times the sculptures explored the relationship between movement and balance.
