Beskrivelse
Orm Island is no longer an island in the sea. Long ago, land uplift changed this flat coastal landscape. It has turned seabeds into forests and islands into part of the mainland. Although the coastline has moved further east, Ormön is still full of water. The sea, marshes and forest offer great nature experiences. The area is located 10 km east of Hamrångefjärden and covers 75 hectares. There are ponds and wetlands, swamp forests and marshes. The saltiness of the sea remains in the water and puts a special stamp on everything that lives and grows here.
The wetlands and forest are very valuable habitats for plants and animals. The red-listed species marsh marigold is found in at least two places in the area, and at Lake Kylen the rare plant yarrow.
The forest is diverse. The spruce and pine thrive best with their roots a little drier. Birch and alder take over the wetter areas and form large swamp forests. In the driest parts there are really old and coarse coniferous forests with 30 meter high and 120 year old trees.
