Kungshögshällarnas domänreservat, Naturreservat

Kungshögshällarna stands out like a high peak in the flat landscape of western Gästrikland. At the top of Kungshögshällarna stands an old fire watch tower built in 1929 to monitor the forest's green gold in the event of a forest fire. The lookout tower has been damaged by a fire and is currently not accessible to visitors. We are working with the municipality of Sandviken to repair the tower so that visitors can once again come up and enjoy the view. The tower is owned and managed by Sandviken municipality.

The area is located 5 kilometers southeast of Grönsinka and covers 6 hectares. The easiest way to reach the top is from the path by the parking lot just south of Kungshögs fäbodar. If you have more time, you can hike along the Gästrikeleden trail.

Kungshöjdsslingan is an alternative route of the Gästrikeleden between Stärte and Ulvkisbosjön, on the part of the Gästrikeleden that runs between Österfärnebo and Grönsinka.

Old, gnarled pines

As you follow the path up the mountain, you pass pine trees that are very old. The trees are coarse, low and gnarled, the oldest are over 400 years old. Higher up the mountain, the rocks begin. Gray and yellowish-white cushions of reindeer lichen grow here in mats.

In the hollows between, lingonberries and bilberries coexist with linnéa and forest star. From the top of the mountain you have a fine view of the pine crowns on the heath below.
