Konsul Göranssons minnessten

That Göran Fredrik Göransson, a merchant from Gävle and vice-consul for Brazil, would make a major technological breakthrough and revolutionize the production of steel was unexpected, to say the least. But in 1858, this is exactly what happened. The place was here at Högbo Bruk and in the mill's blast furnace in Edsken.

This unprecedented success led to the first mass production of malleable steel during the Industrial Revolution, a time when the world's need for steel was enormous. It would also become the cradle of the town of Sandviken and of what is today the global industrial group Sandvik. A company that was founded here, in the middle of our beautiful Högbo, thanks to Konsul Göransson.
