Handlinger
Beskrivelse
In Gåsholma nature reserve you will find a varied and unexploited archipelago environment. Both nesting birds and outdoor-loving people thrive here. Marked paths take you around the flat islands of Gåsholmen and Synskär. To get here you need boat transportation. The larger islands are largely covered by forest. The beaches are rocky and boulder-rich. On some rocky outcrops with alkaline bedrock, lime-loving species such as the northern lock fern thrive. Wild chives have also been found in the area. On the two larger islands there are also belts of sea buckthorn. On northeastern Gåsholmen is a small nutrient-rich marsh where the beautiful yellow sword lily grows.
Valuable for many
The reserve is home to a rich bird life. Here you can see great crested newts, little crested newts, sandpipers, oystercatchers and oystercatchers. Access to Gåshällan is prohibited during parts of the year, to protect the birds.
Habitats below the surface
Gåsholma is one of the few nature reserves where the natural values below the surface have also been considered. The marine area of the reserve is rich in different habitats. Both shallow bays and hard bottoms at greater depths.
The shallow bays are important spawning and nursery areas for several fish species. The vegetation provides shelter for fry and small fish. There is also plenty of food for seabirds.
Crustaceans in seaweed beds
Around Gåshällan there are rocks and boulders. Bladderwrack and bladderwrack grow here in thick stands. Both of these species are very important for the marine ecosystem.
Because many crustaceans seek shelter in the seaweed gravel. The crustaceans then feed the fish in the area.
