Flotthöljan, Naturreservat

At Flotthöljan, the Svåga river divides into a pair of shallow rapids separated by several long, narrow islands. You can walk along the path here, and a small stream runs along its south-western bank. The rapids and forest offer great nature experiences. The area covers 114 hectares and is located 35 kilometers northeast of Friggesund. The forest next to the river has an abundance of one of the country's more rare coniferous forest slaves, the ringed lichen.

It grows on the trunks and branches of pine, spruce and birch, and many spruces are beautifully covered with it. In the moist environment and characteristic climate next to the river's rapids, the ringed lichen thrives. So do various mosses.

The endangered moss species small horned moss, kurra moss and alsid moss are found in the nature reserve. The area's wood fungi include the woolly tick, wrinkled skin, scented skin and rose tick.

Animals in Flotthöljan

Both the Svågan rapids in the nature reserve and Styggbäcken are important environments for the river pearl mussel. In Styggbäcken, which flows into Svågan, there are grayling and a natural population of trout.
