Törnsbäcken, Naturreservat

Where Törnsbäcken winds its way, between the lakes Stora and Lilla Törnstjärnen, lies this old natural forest. The area is rocky and here there are no marked trails to reach. But if you want to experience a natural forest far from civilization, Törnsbäcken lies good to. Here the trees have grown almost undisturbed, vibrated during storms and new plants have come up with irregular intervals. Here are numbers where it is drier and spruces in damp stretches. But also some birches and single seal. Everyone has the different ages. Some are only small plants, while others have reached a considerable age, perhaps up to 150 years. Even the dead trees live. On them grow mosses and lichens. The insects gnaw off the soft wood. Small plants grow well on the decomposing trees. This forest is full of life in all its forms!

There are traces of forest fires in the entire area, and in the drier areas there are dead, standing trees, so-called dry cores. On them one can clearly see traces of several fires. Bitwise one can find many stumps from the dimension cuttings. A common harvesting method in the mid-19th century, which meant that only the roughest and most valuable trees were felled. The rest of the forest was left. In most cases, the stumps also carry traces from one or more fires.
