Smäcken

This is truly nature close to the city! There are residential areas all around and it is perhaps mostly the people who live here who use the area. Lush greenery, open land and springs and watercourses make the area very varied and a valuable oasis for different plants and animals.

The area is named "Smäcken" after the footbridge, formerly known as Smäck, which led over Lusbäcken near its outlet into Tunaån. There is a lush deciduous forest here that is rich in birdlife. The forest has been standing for so long that trees are beginning to die, which means that the amount of dead wood is gradually increasing. This creates conditions for fungi and insects, which in turn is beneficial for woodpeckers, for example. The area also includes interesting aquatic environments at the springs and Lusbäcken. Along Lusbäcken and in Smäcken there are several places where frogs spawn in the spring.
