Ludvika Gammelgård & Gruvmuseum

An industrial historical museum located by the scenic Marnästjärn. Ludvika Gammelgård is one of Sweden’s largest heritage sites, with 38 buildings. The area includes two museums – Bergsmansgården and Gruvmuséet.

The site is accessible for self-guided visits during daytime all year round. Several buildings are open to visitors during summer.

Information signs about the buildings and mining operations are located around the area. Informational brochures are available at the café or reception.

Ludvika Gammelgård & Gruvmuseum is part of Ekomuseum Bergslagen.

Ekomuseum Bergslagen

Bergsmansgården dates back to the 1500's and remains in its original location. Today, it functions as a hembygdsgård and museum, with preserved buildings.

Gruvmuseum is the world’s first industrial heritage open-air museum and consists of a collection of buildings, machinery, and tools from closed mines. It was inaugurated in 1938 and includes, among other things, a complete rod system— a mechanical power transmission system driven by waterwheels. The wheel measures an impressive 15 meters in diameter.

Mineralmuseum is located in the building Ladugården and features an exhibition of a thousand beautiful and unusual minerals, as well as a shop. The exhibition is owned and managed by Västerbergslagens Geologiska förening.

Örtagården showcases traditional perennials, herbs, and unique local heritage plants.

Hällsjöboden sells materials for the Ludvika folk costume and the Bergsman costume.

Local crafts are displayed and sold in Tholerihuset, near the main parking lot.

Summertime, there is a play shed with equipment and activities for families. Rabbits, sheep, and chickens can also be found on the grounds. Refreshments are served in Hembygdföreningen's summer café, offering coffee and baked bread.

Flea markets are held on Saturdays from May to September, with a large number of vendors. It is one of the largest in Dalarna, with around 200 tables available for rent.
