Beskrivelse
Over the millennia, the flow of Österängsån has created a beautiful and treacherous ravine through the landscape. In places it is 250 meters wide and 20 meters deep. The Gärdsgruvan nature reserve is a smaller "neighbor" to the Enåns nature reserve, which is further east, and has similar natural values.
The bottom of the ravine has been used for haymaking long ago by the people of Nedre Gärdsjö village. The name of the reserve is taken from one such mowing site. Mowing has long since ceased and the ravine floor is now a peculiar environment with alternating "semi-natural" meadows mixed with birch and spruce of varying ages.

Regler
In the reserve it is not allowed to...
- damage growing or dead - standing or fallen - trees, stumps and bushes,
- drive motorized vehicles on the terrain, applies to both bare ground and snow-covered ground with the exception of the following: vehicles may be driven on the forest roads shown on the map in Appendix 3.
**Furthermore, it is prohibited without the permission of the County Administrative Board
- digging up plants, picking mosses, lichens, wood-living fungi or collecting animals,
- carry out major or recurring organized events such as competitions and camp activities.
